The Election Commission of India (ECI) provides a wide range of services designed to ensure free and fair elections, many of which are now consolidated into a unified digital ecosystem.
As of early 2026, the ECI has launched ECINET, a one-stop digital platform that integrates over 40 apps and portals to serve voters, candidates, and political parties.
1. Services for Citizens (Voters)
These services focus on ensuring every eligible citizen can participate in the democratic process.
-
Voter Registration: Apply for a new Voter ID (Form 6) or update existing details. There are now four qualifying dates in a year (Jan 1, April 1, July 1, Oct 1) to enroll as soon as you turn 18.
-
Electoral Roll Search: Verify if your name is on the voter list and find your specific polling station.
-
e-EPIC Download: Download a secure, non-editable PDF version of your Voter ID card.
-
Know Your Candidate (KYC): View the criminal antecedents, assets, and educational qualifications of candidates contesting in your constituency.
-
Service Voter Portal: Dedicated registration and management for Defense Personnel and those serving the Government of India outside their home state.
-
Saksham (Divyang): Specialized services and support for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) to make voting more accessible.
2. Services for Candidates & Political Parties
These tools streamline the administrative and legal requirements of contesting an election.
-
Suvidha Portal: Allows candidates to apply for various permissions (rallies, vehicles, loudspeakers) and enables online data entry for nomination forms and affidavits.
-
PPRTMS: The Political Parties Registration Tracking Management System provides real-time tracking of the registration process for new political parties.
-
Election Expenditure Monitoring: Candidates must lodge accounts of their election expenses within prescribed timelines through ECI’s digital audit systems.
-
Broadcasting Time: Recognized political parties are allotted free time on Doordarshan (DD) and All India Radio (AIR) to communicate their policies.
3. Grievance & Reporting Services
The ECI provides robust mechanisms for reporting violations and seeking redressal.
-
cVIGIL: A mobile app for citizens to report Model Code of Conduct (MCC) violations (like bribery or illegal campaigning). The ECI commits to acting on these reports within a 100-minute timeline.
-
National Grievance Services Portal (NGSP): A single interface for handling election-related and non-election-related complaints, allowing citizens to track the investigation status in real-time.
-
RTI Online Portal: Facilitates filing Right to Information (RTI) applications directly to the ECI.
4. Administrative & Regulatory Functions
Beyond digital portals, the ECI performs critical “offline” services:
-
Model Code of Conduct (MCC): Issuing and enforcing guidelines for political parties and candidates during the election period.
-
Electoral Symbol Allotment: Recognizing political parties and settling disputes regarding their election symbols.
-
Advisory Jurisdiction: Advising the President or Governors on the disqualification of sitting members of Parliament or State Legislatures.
-
To register as a voter in India, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has streamlined the process through both digital and physical channels.
As of 2026, the registration system remains highly efficient, with a major focus on the ECINET digital ecosystem.
